Why Every Business Needs Tik Tok

Tik Tok. Don’t lie--you know you’ve tried it (or you’ve at least thought about trying it). We are all stuck inside, spending more time than ever on social media. Scrolling, watching, liking, commenting. It’s only natural that your curiosity would get the best of you. Perhaps you saw a shared Tik Tok video on a friend’s Facebook or Instagram, shakin’ it to Lil’ Nas while shoulder-to-shoulder with their teenage child. Oh, quarantine. What have you done to us?

(Sigh.)

Before you know it, you’ve downloaded that blurred little pink and blue neon note. An hour (and dozens of videos) later, the rest is history. You’re hooked.

Seriously though, Tik Tok’s content is addictingly entertaining. And if you think that the app is just for bored work-from-home parents trying to look cool and bond with their pre-teens during quarantine, you’re wrong. Here are some eyebrow-raising facts about Tik Tok you need to know as a business owner (yes--it’s more than just a crazy dancing platform):

  • TikTok has about 60 million monthly active users in the United States.
  • The TikTok app has been downloaded over 2 billion times worldwide.
  • In Q1 of 2020, the app had 315 million downloads--130 million from the U.S.
  • 100 billion average monthly video views worldwide.
  • Average user spends approx. one hour on the app.
  • Approx. 75% of users are under the age of 34--this is pre-quarantine data, and it’s safe to say this has shifted to include people in their late-30s, 40s and 50s as well.

These numbers are dramatically growing everyday and there has been a drastic increase in use by all age groups and demographics. Since the pandemic broke out and quarantine began, everyone seems to have joined the craze: major organizations, big name brands, non-profits, small businesses--you name it.

So what does this mean for your business?

To start, if you haven’t downloaded the app--do it now. Don’t be shy or embarrassed. Just check it out. Everyone’s doing it. Including your customers.

Next, you need to start thinking about and utilizing Tik Tok just as you would any other social media platform: How can this help you reach, connect and engage with potential customers?

If you’re thinking, “This could never work for my business.” You are so wrong!

Tik Tok can help you grow your reach and increase your revenue.

Check out some of these organizations, businesses and brands who are killin’ it on Tik Tok, and leveraging the app to grow their audience and clientele:
